Create a post purchase flow

After checkout, shoppers expect clear next steps including order confirmation details, tracking, cancellations, returns and contacting support. The method of delivering these details depends on whether you choose a hosted or embedded post-purchase experience.

Embedded flow

In an embedded flow, shoppers stay on your site for everything after purchase. Order confirmation, tracking, and return actions happen within your domain, fully aligned with your brand’s look and feel.

Choose Embedded if you:

  • Want full control over your shopper's experience
  • Prioritize brand consistency and retention
  • Have the resources to manage post-purchase actions on your site
  • Want to integrate tracking and returns directly into your customer account pages

Hosted flow

In an Amazon hosted flow, after completing checkout, shoppers remain on the merchant site. A link or button is provided on the order confirmation page, allowing them to easily view and manage their Prime order on Amazon, ensuring there are no dead ends in the post purchase experience. The image below shows an example of an Amazon hosted post-purchase flow.

Example of a hosted flow

Choose Hosted if you:

  • Want a faster implementation with fewer technical requirements
  • Prefer to offload tracking, cancellations, and returns to a fulfillment partner
  • Accept a third-party branded experience post-purchase
  • Are comfortable redirecting shoppers to Amazon for post-purchase order management
